This week, TalkBowling anwers a couple of viewer questions.
- Where should I put the pin for most hook on a Storm Virtual Gravity.
- What does it mean when a ball is reactive 2″-3″?
- Which do the three of us prefer, Roto Grip Cell, Storm Virtual Gravity, or the Storm Dimension?
All this and more on TalkBowling Episode #0013.
Thanks for answering my question guys. I have been looking for something more aggressive than the smokin' inferno that I have. Because that is the strongest ball I have, all three of the balls I mentioned, the Virtual Gravity, Cell, and Dimension will all be stronger. There was definitely some good feedback which is going to help me decide.
From the 2007-08 USBC Playing Rules, Chaper 7, Section 2: the number of legal holes allowed in a bowling ball is 12. One for each digit on the hand, one weight hole, a vent hole for each grip hole, and one inspection hole. Obviously, the size and depth of each hole is limited by the USBC for legallity.
I know you guys have to try out all the new equipment, but what do you do with all of the balls afterwards?
hey guys another great video but i was wondering u you can help me out a lil bit im looking for a new ball that snaps HARD in the backend i tryed getting help from my local pro shop but he dosnt seem to like me or want to help soo i turn to you guys. im just looking for a ball that would hook more i have the cell pearl black widow but i want somthing that hooks more.
I knew about the legality of the 5 finger holes, the vent holes and the weight hole, but I didn't know about the inspection hole.. what is that in reference too/purpose?
@David: The Cell Pearl (depending on drilling and cover) is going to give you alot of length because of the pearlized cover and snap in the backend when the cover hits the dry, depending on which Black Widow you have (Pearl will be the same as previous) I haven't had any experience with the Bite or the Venom, but the Original did have alot of hook when laid out correctly with a rough surface.. so I would recomment attempting to change the surface of your bowling balls to fit the lane condition you bowl on before purchasing a new ball.. but if you are set on buying a new ball, I have had a great deal of success with Track's Rising SE and I would also recommend Columbia 300's Power Swing, again, try for a "Strong" layout and keep the coverstock rough for a more powerful hook through oily conditions or polished for more flare/movement on the backend
@TalkBowling: you guys have mentioned on several occasions about needing/wanting ideas for future shows. Just from seeing some of the comments left here as well as my personal experience watching your show as a bowler,
1 – i'd recommend maybe a session at a Pro-Shop going over some of the things they do there, such as sanding/polishing and how that affects ball reaction, taking care of your bowling ball with polishes/cleaners/abralon pads
2 – maybe go over some of the more technical aspects of bowling balls and ratings, such as the importance of RG, the Perfect Scale, and such and how it affects the ball at certain weights
3 – going off your show about pin length and such you guys could explain some things regarding finger weight and thumb weight, whats legal by USBC standards, and how those affect ball reaction
4 – i'd personally like to see you guys get out of the conference room a few times, maybe have an actual on the lanes presentation of something, or have a contest between you three and some special guests maybe
Question @ TalkBowling: just as a reference for future comments/expectations, are you guys, as a show/representation, trying to stick to technical things related to bowling? or are you guys possible going to step out into the realms of coaching and pro-shop stuff?
I second all of those suggestions for future shows.
I would especially like to know more about the perfect scale. The Roto Grip Cell is listed as a Heavy Oil ball, with a Perfect Scale number of 205.5. While the Storm Virtual Gravity is listed as a ball for Medium/Heavy oil, with a Perfect Scale number of 219.5. There seems to be some contradictions here. If you guys could explain the scale a little more that would be great.
I believe it says 5 for gripping and 1 balance hole
So..6 would be my answer
And by the way. I own botht the virtual and dimension vg hits harder dimension goes longer BOTH great balls looking forward to next week
The legal amount of holes in a bowling ball is you must plug 3/4 of the holes in the ball with you fingers so a convetional three fingers bowler can have four hole and if a bowler only puts the two grip fingers in the ball there can only be three holes. so depanding on the amount of fingers you put in the ball you must have 3/4 of the hole filled with fingers.
